Many of my clients think of having their family photos taken during the fall close to the holidays. I love a holiday card as much as anyone but there are so many wonderful reasons why you should choose summer family photos.

Summer days feel much more relaxing when you don’t need to keep an early morning school schedule. This allows time to book sunrise sessions on a weekday. If you promise bagels or donuts afterwards to they will be excited and have something to look forward to. If you have little children, they are most likely up early anyway. The light is beautiful at sunrise and you can still make it to work in time.

Being able to schedule a family session during a weekday keeps your weekends open. Lots of my clients have very full weekends with summer camp, soccer and family dinners. Many photographers also charge a weekend fee because they too want to be home with their families. Booking a weekday allows you to put that extra investment in prints and wall art for your home.

Summer offers you an amazing selection of locations. DC and Maryland have an abundance of options. The Bartholdi Fountain and the Constitution Gardens are both location in DC that work well at sunrise or sunset. The Bon Air Rose Garden in Arlington offers stunning blooms of roses all summer and into fall. The Bishop’s Garden has a lovely mix of greenery and architecture.

Summer photos are always the most colorful. From peonies to lavender to roses…they add such a whimsical and soft feel to your family portraits. I’m always happy to share a list of summer locations with all my clients so we can choose the best option for your family.
