Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
Here is a list of location for spring photos in DC. There’s never a more beautiful time to take photos in DC than springtime. The magnolia blossoms are by from my favorite and the first to burst open. Then you have the famous cherry blossoms. The city has hidden pockets of daffodils and tulips as well.
The U.S. Captiol is a favorite of mine due to being such an iconic building. The stunning architecture is perfect all on its own but it also offers gorgeous spring blooms. There is one magnolia tree on the Capitol grounds that is just stunning. Located behind the Capitol in the grass area before you get to the Library of Congress. The branches hang low and you can create those whimsical and dreamy spring portraits.
Rawlins Park is just stunning during magnolia blooms. This is a hidden park near the White House that is surrounded by magnolia trees. Typically they bloom in middle to late March. People travel from all around the world to come see the cherry blossoms but if I’m being honest….the magnolias are so much prettier.
Another location I love is the DAR Building! The architecture is just exquisite especially at sunrise or sunset. I love this location because it requires a permit so you have the entire place to yourself. There is something peaceful and calm about having a private location, a rarity in DC.
This location is probably the most famous. The Tidal Basin gets visitors from all around the world during peak cherry blossom. You can view the predicted dates here and they do so well at keeping you updated day by day as we get close to peak date.
The last location I love during the spring is the Jefferson Memorial. Once again, a mix of architecture and blossoms. This location is known for its stunning columns and view of the Washington Monument. It gets super busy so sunrise is best for crowds and lighting.

I am now booking spring sessions for March. This year I am taking fewer session than I have booked in the past due to moving and taking care of our two little boys. If you want to secure a spring session for your family, reach out soon. I would love to photograph you and your little ones among the blossoms!
