The first choice I would suggest is your outfit and color scheme. This is the biggest way you can elevate any session. Long skirts add such a feminine and graceful movement to an image. A long and flowing dress also gives you confidence in that last phase of pregnancy. It’s flattering on every body type and gives a photographer a variety of ways to be creative. Remember the little details too. Opt for a classic watch/timepiece and skip your Apple Watch. The dark black can be very distracting in a photo and sometimes the lights will display during a session and you don’t notice until later. Classic taupe heals or sandals are a wonderful choice for mothers. I also love bare feet if your session is during the summer and fall months. It gives the images a romantic and ethereal feeling.

Secondly, the location you choose is very important in elevating your photo session. There are so many wonderful locations that I would suggest if you are wanting a maternity session in Washington DC. From lovely private gardens to majestic architecture, the city offers it all. The Library of Congress, Bishop’s Garden, Constitution Gardens or the DAR building are all wonderful to name just a few.
