Knowing how to photograph twins can be challenging but here are a few simple steps you can take to make it go smoothly.

1. Keep them close -twins have been next to each other for nine months and immediately calm when they are together
2. Wrap them snuggly -a tight wrap can keep their arms and legs close so they don’t disturb the other baby. While they love being next to the other one, they can disturb them too if their arms bump one another.
3. Show their personalities -there is always one twin that is snugglier than the other. Let them pose naturally and it will be adorable. This also “tells their story” and will help twin parents remember which one was which.
4. Use something to identify each one. Twin newborns can look so similar and it can be hard to keep them identified when editing the gallery after. If it’s a boy and girl, put a bow in her hair or use gender specific clothes. If it’s two girls you can use different bows. I am a twin myself and my mother used little bracelets with our names on them to keep us straight. The nurses made them of us when we were in the hospital.
5. Be sure to capture an individual portrait of each baby. This matters to the parents and will matter to each child when they are older.
