I thought it would be helpful to make a list of the best locations in DC for family photos. There are so many decisions to make when it comes to family photos. First, choosing your location and the “feel” you want from your images can help you decide on what to wear. Secondly, combining what you wear with the location can create stunning imagery when paired well.

1. First is the Bishop’s Garden. This is a hidden gem in the city! This location offers a calm garden combined with stunning architecture of the National Cathedral.
2. Botanical Gardens -I love this location because you have the most beautiful gardens and a great view of the Capitol. This location has the best lighting early morning or in the late evening.
3. Library of Congress -The front stairs to the building make you feel like you are in Europe. The stunning staircase with the lamps posts gives an Old World feeling.
4. Dumbarton Oaks -This location has sprawling gardens for acres. My favorite time to shoot here is in the spring when the wisteria blooms. It’s located right in the middle of Georgetown.
5. Constitution Gardens -Many people never know this gem is even in DC. It’s right by the water and has a wonderful view of the Washington Monument on a clear day. Also, it has a small bridge across the water but my favorite feature is the beautiful willow tree. This location is best at sunrise or late evening.
6. Bon Air Rose Garden -Located just outside of DC in Arlington, this garden is a dream in May, June and July. You can smell the scent of roses when you arrive and it has lovely benches and arches of cascading roses.
7. The Bartholdi Fountain, Upper Senate Park and the Supreme Court are just a few more locations that I love.
