It’s ironic how I can be a Washington DC newborn photographer but also forget to prioritize photos with my own child. Every time I see photos of me with my baby I realize how much I value them and it gives me a new perspective on motherhood. There is just something about actually seeing yourself in that role and the bond you have together that makes me so emotional.

Taking photos of you with your little one is so important. It actually shapes so many aspects of their childhood. I remember my own mother updating our family photo each year that hung on our living room wall. I would walk by that portrait countless times a day. It showed me as a little girl that my family was a unit. We were together and my mother prioritized family photos. I now know how much time and effort it took her to do it but now I’m ever so grateful.

Here are a few images of me with Robert playing in his nursery. I love them! We’ve had a few long nights together this past month. He had a touch of the flu and he has so many teeth coming in. Below are a few words I wrote to him on a hard day. We all have hard days mamas, but it’s so worth it. They are ours to love and hold, what a privilege!

We were up all night, both you and I 

I’d pick you up each time you cried 

These long nights feel like a blurry haze 

I know I’ll look back fondly on this dear phase 

It’s hard and it’s busy -This one year old craze

It’s winter which mean sniffles  -A new tooth just peaked through 

I’m happy, I’m exhausted. Some days I don’t know what to do 

But there are moments I hardly remember
