Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
It can feel daunting to think of busy toddlers and scheduling your family photos. You just never know what kind of day your toddler will be having when you schedule your session months in advance. But having a plan can help it go smoothly. Scheduling your session early in the day and making sure they have a good breakfast are two things that really help to have a fun session.
Here is a list of beautiful toys for photo shoots. I hope you find this list helpful if you are also a fellow photographer. If you are a parent who wants to have a few things for your toddler to play with during your session these items would be so helpful. They are neutral and aesthetic pleasing for photos. Most of them blend into a photograph if your child is playing with them and can bring out genuine smiles.
wooden blocks -I was given this set of wooden blocks and Robert adores them. They are so pretty and neutral in photographs.
wooden cars -I try to carry at least one or two of these in my camera bag to every session. Children enjoy them so much and they are small enough to hide or simply hold. If a toddler is feeling sad I will gift them the car to take home with them after they are finished.
aesthetic books -I adore these beautiful books! You can purchase them on Amazon of course but if you are local to DC, Three Littles carries them in their shop. They add beautiful to any child’s library and They are not too overstimulating. If you are a photographer, they are perfect to keep in your toy bag for toddlers.
rattles -I love the classic look of a wooden rattle. These are good for three to six month babies.
white cotton balls for dryer -I know you probably never guessed this option. White cotton balls simply blend into a photograph. Balls are always an element of fun for a child. If you want them out of the photograph entirely you can give it a toss to toward the camera and the children’s eyes usually follow it and most times it brings a laugh too.
