Babies are being born all year long. I have lots of clients who ask if they are able to still take their family photos during the winter months. Here in DC we don’t always get snow but the weather does get very cold.

There are many outdoor locations I recommend if it’s not too chilly but here are my favorite Indoor DC location for photos. DC offers so many lovely options from art galleries to hotels and libraries.

1. National Portrait Gallery. This location has a beautiful atrium with a glass ceiling that ensures good light all year long. The second and third floors offer class architecture and stunning design. This location is free to visit.
2. The Library of Congress. I love this building because the outside is just stunning with large lamps and a beautiful staircase. The inside offers good light and architecture that makes you feel like you are in Europe. This does require a timed pass but is free.
3. National Gallery of Art. This building has a few spots that have greenery (ex. the photos in this post) but also so many wonderful works of art. I love the unique images you can create. This building is free to the public.
4. DAR Building. The outdoor location is on of my favorites in all of DC, especially in the spring when their magnolia tree is in bloom. The hidden gem of the building is the lovely library. ( This does requires permit fee)
5. Other options are local hotels -Riggs, Willard or Regis ( These require permission beforehand)
6. Local Libraries. Shaw and Woodbridge libraries have great light and make a fun option if you are wanting colorful and interactive photos with a toddler.
