Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
Being a Washington DC newborn photographer, I hear of so many families traveling with their little ones. Some are quick trips to another state and others are longer stays abroad. Here are five basic tips to make your next vacation stress free with your kiddos.
Travel with a carseat or stroller. We adore the Doona Stroller. It is so lightweight and small that you can maneuver through the airport earlier. It folds into a carseat that is safe certified for any car without the base. This makes it easy to grab a cab from the airport to your hotel. We bought our Doona from Three Littles, a children’s boutique here in DC. They also offer a great travel carseat for older children as well.
Check to see if your hotel has a crib. If you are driving to your destination you can bring along a packnplay but if you are flying, it’s good to ask about sleeping options beforehand.
Know what accommodations are in your area. The hotel we booked for our first trip is close to a Walgreens so we knew we could get diapers and wet ones there and save space when we packed our luggage.
Will you be packing baby formula? Most airports just need to know you have it in your luggage. This is a quick scan of the container and you can be on your way again. If you are baby wearing your little one and he/she is sleeping, you don’t need to unwrap and wake your baby through security. They have been so accommodating to us every time and let me and the baby go through the scans together.
Where is your destination? Will your baby need a jacket or do you need to pack a hat and sunscreen? It can feel a bit overwhelming to pack for a baby on your first trip but if you have a list of things you absolutely need, then you can rest that the other things will be fine. Parents are incredibly creative and can think of many ways to solve a problem if it arises. I hope you found these tips for traveling with a baby helpful. You’ve got this!
