One thing I always look for during a family session is mundane moments. Little interactions that occur organically and aren’t posed in anyway. This colorful spring family session was full of them and felt so fun and relaxed. One thing mothers always do is fix their children’s hair. I think it’s an everyday habit and also makes them feel comfortable in a moment of uncertainty. Either way, I love it and always look for the little brush on their forehead or a tightening of a pigtail.

We took this colorful spring family session at the Botanical Gardens in DC. The light was pouring through the trees and roses. This sweet mama wanted snuggles and connection with her little ones. Even the family pup joined for a few portraits. I love adding family pets because they usually were the “baby” before all the babies arrived. I think it’s so important to document the different phases of a family for the children to look at and remember in the years to come.
