Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
When it comes to welcoming a baby into your home you are immediately bombarded with items you “need” to purchase. It can feel so overwhelming and what works for my home might not work for yours. Even so, I wanted to share with you a few items that made it easier for us in some way as we welcomed Robert into our family. Here are my 6 favorite items for a newborn.
Egg night light This little light has made night time feedings so much easier. It’s not bright like an overhead light is at 3am but it’s just enough to enable me to see. Changing a diaper or fixing a bottle was so much easier with a small light.
Formula to-go container This doesn’t seem like a big item but it is so helpful! You can fill 4 containers with a specific amount of formula so you know how much water to add later. It also has a pour spout so you can easily add it to a bottle without spilling any. I also use it during the night so I don’t make a mess in the dark trying to fill a bottle.
Fellow tea kettle We have had our tea kettle for some time now but I have used it a tremendous amount with a new baby. On week 3 our baby refused to breastfeed to we had to switch to formula quickly. The temperture gauge was so helpful to ensure the water was warm but not too hot for a newborn.
Snuggle Me Organic I bought the color “Slate” because it was more gender neutral but I love the colors “Gingerbread” and “Burch”. I found ours on Facebook Marketplace nearby and it was a 1/3 of the original price and in excellent condition. Just be sure to give it a good cleaning before using it for your baby.
Solly Wrap I have ours in the color “Basil”. A friend gifted me one and I was’t sure I would use it but I love it! Robert loves it too. It has given me so much time back with free hands while my little one sleeps.
Doona Stroller I debated for a while about what stroller we would need and not just want. The Doona has been perfect for us especially with living in the city. You tend to walk a lot in an urban setting because everything is so close it’s not worth the time it takes to load everyone in the car. But when we do take the car, the stroller wheels fold up with one click and it easily drops into the base that sits in our vehicle. It is so easy and convenient! (I may have had too google how to do it the first time without Daniel’s help ☺️) Facebook Marketplace is also such a great way to purchase and save money. We did purchase ours from Three Littles, a local children’s boutique here in DC.
