Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
I recently went through a stage of plateau in my business. It wasn’t burnout…I just felt like I was plateauing as a photographer in my skill and creativity. So I thought of ways to challenge myself and spark creativity in my art again. It really worked and I feel so inspirited and refreshed, excited about a busy season ahead.
Here is a list of things I did to feel inspired again.
2. Find a Mentor. I recently connected with Allison Wollen about a mentor session. We talked for two hours on Zoom and it was incredible. She shared with me some of her biggest business tips and I definitely went away knowing more ways to serve my clients.
3. Style a Session for fun. I took a model call on my Instagram account and some wonderful mothers reached out willing to model for me. I suggested wardrobe ideas and chose a location I was wanting to photograph at for a along time. It was hands down one of my favorite sessions so far. You then are able to share those images attracting clients who want the same style and location.
4. Listen to a business podcast. I have several I listen to regularly but the Heart and Hustle podcast is one of my favorites.
5. Go on an adventure (eat new food). This might sound silly but it really works. It doesn’t need to be elaborate or fancy. Try making a new food for dinner, go on a picnic, visit a museum. This past month Daniel saw the Botanical Gardens had a corpse flower blooming. The blooms only lasts a day or two so we stopped what we were doing -midday- and walked over to see it. Any adventure can spark creativity and inspire.
