“When is the right time to find a mentor for your business?”

This was my question for several months and here are a few ways to know when to start looking for one.

1. Are you feeling inspired with your work? If you are feeling lost or don’t know where to turn next, a business mentor can look into your business and see things you can’t.
2. Do you need to improve your skill but can’t teach yourself any further? This was what drove me to looking for a mentor. I knew I needed to learn better lighting and improve my consistency but couldn’t move forward on my own.

If you are at a place where you are looking for a mentor how do you know who to choose?

1. Choose a business owner you trust. One easy way to get to know a person is by following them on Instagram. Getting a peek into their life can show you if you are a good fit or not.
2. Do they show consistency? It takes skill to be consistent and show lots of work. If you follow someone who does that, it’s a good sign that they can teach you how to do the same.
3. What do their clients say? I also look at reviews and how many a business owner has. If clients are happy, then you know they aren’t just skilled at what they do, they are kind as well.
4. Will they give you honest feedback? I didn’t want a pat on the back, I wanted constructive criticism so I could grow and push my business further.

My first mentor session was with Alison for Alison Wollen Photography. I collected a few questions I had for my business and just had her take a look at my work and website. It was SO insightful!

I also joined Brenna’s Motherhood course. I admire her work so much! It’s clean, simple, and full of heart. We did an Instagram Live together and I took away a few really helpful tips.
