Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
Here is an overview of what I take with me during a newborn session.
Canon 5D Mark IV -my camera body
Canon 50mm 1.2 -my lens I use 99% of the time
Canon 100mm macro -for the detail images like lashes and toes
Sigma 35mm 1.4 -wide angle for tight spaces during a home session
I only bring one bag with me and I have had it for over 5 years-purchased from Ross. It fits everything I need because I don’t like to bring a ton of extra things. Keeping my system simple makes it easier on me and less intimidating for my clients.
Here is a glimpse of what’s in my bag. Right now I keep an extra mask, just in case. I really like these masks because they aren’t distracting prints and allow me to breathe well during a session.
These small stickers are a must-have for me. I grab them whenever I see a pack that is small. When a child is sad or doesn’t want to sit, I just place a sticker in the “secret place” (the palm of their hand) and it works every time. They are small and you can’t see them in the rest of the images you’re about to take. I keep the big stickers for a reward after the session.
Alway keep an extra battery on had that is fully charged. I once went to a session that my battery was completely dead. Thankfully I was very close my house and ran home for one. You never want this to happen to you. Also keep a few extra empty camera cards. You never know when one won’t read or you could possibly run out of memory and you need a new card.
This little tube of bubble I got at a wedding years ago. I kept it for family sessions. Children never expect bubbles indoors and they are the perfect size to distract and make a few smiles.
This little fellow I got on Amazon and it’s a hit. It lights up and has a sound. It will make any toddler look at you for a few seconds. You can also use it as a fun bride to play with after if they do well.
The last few things: shout wipes, lens cleaner (for toddler smudges when they want to see my camera), and business cards.
