Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
I wanted to give you several simple tips on how to design your photo albums. I believe photos should come off the digital screen and become a beautiful print or album for you and your family to enjoy everyday. Sure, you probably won’t look at your photo album every day but the moments when you want to sit down and relive different stages in life…they will be waiting for you. It’s such a wonderful gift to be able to pass down to your children. Everything will be neatly kept in an organized album because, digital bloopers happen. So here are a few tips for making a simple photo album look more high-end.
Less is more. So many times we look at the many images from a session and we want to choose them all for an album. But if you choose the most important images from a gallery, it will make your album look more high-end. My suggestion would be 10-15 for a newborn session and 30-40 for a wedding.
Choose to tell your story. It can feel hard to only choose 20 images for an album but usually you can find the images that tell the story of the occasion you are commemorating. For a newborn session example, I would choose the newborn portrait, two details, newborn with both parents, with siblings, maybe one where the newborn is yawning, and end the album with a family photo of everyone enjoying each other.
Pair a detail image with a full length/wide angle shot. When designing an album, your pages have more impact if you keep them simple. I like choosing a detail shot (toes or eyelashes if it’s a newborn) and paring that with a wide angle. (wide view of the bedroom with baby on the bed) This is more pleasing to the eye and you get to fully see both effects of the images.
If you are a client of mine, I am happy to help you design your own album or you can easily order one through your gallery link.
Here are a few place to order photo albums from: MPix, Shutterfly, or blurb.
If you are looking for heirloom albums I highly recommend Artifact Uprising.
