The last few days have been incredibly rainy and it’s been hard to get out of the house. Here are a few fun ideas to do with your children to entertain and help with the “cooped in” feelings.

• Kinetic sand -this can give you several hours of entertainment in one day! Do watch toddlers, that they don’t add water to their sand. It ends in a very sticky sand that sticks to everything!

• Dry beans and pasta in a pan or plastic bin -sensory bins are so good for children and great for the imagination
• Puzzles -you can get so many and for lots of different ages (4-8 boys) (8-10 girls)
• Jump in puddles -just let the mud and wet clothes go and let them feel their freedom a bit
• Blue painter’s tape on your wooden floors for roads -so easy and it thrills little boys
• Drawing classes -with imagination or online
• Fort building -my one friend suggested pulling your living room couch away 3 feet from the wall and let them play behind it
• Running races -create an obstacle course in your home
• Audio books –Farmer Boy, A Teacher’s Funeral, and Little House on the Prairie are some of our favorites
• Picnic in your car with the back door up -this one is so fun and if you tell the children you have a surprise and hold out on telling them it makes it extra fun. Line them all up in the back of the car, put down a blanket and let them go barefoot.

• Watercolors
• Journal -start the children with a few details like a character, setting and problem…then let them create a story. Or have them right about their favorite things from the day each night. Then they can look back and read about what they did over this time. Little ones can just draw pictures.
• Scavenger Hunt -this can be indoor or outside. It’s always fun to let one child come up with the list, it can get very interesting.
