One particular thing I want to work on this year is keeping things cleaned out and to a minimum. We lived in a one bedroom apartment or small rental for years and now that we own a home I am determined to not fill every nook and cranny. I love open and “white” space. It helps me mentally feel free and keeps away from the “more” mindset. I only need one great kitchen knife and one measuring cup set….not five! It’s crazy how we can accumulate stuff. Here are a few things I want to clean out in January for a fresh start to the New Year.

1. Closet -nothing bugs me more that a closet crammed full of clothes you never wear much less look at. I go through Daniel and I’s closet several times a year but would like to do a deep clean this January. Give away some items, drop off a laundry basket load to Goodwill and even throw away or recycle the items that have seen better days.
2. Car -this is one of the fastest and rewarding things to clean. I have this secret bad habit of piling trash on my passenger seat. Gross, I know. When the rest of my car lis clean and swept, it keeps that bad habit to a minimum. You drive your car almost everyday, it feels good to climb in to a clean and organized car. I may add a small trash can to my Amazon cart.
3. Social Media -this one feels a bit personal but needs to happen none the less. If you are following people that are making you discontent or suggesting you to constantly buy more, unfollow them. Seriously. Only keep positive and encouraging people in your life. They are subtle voices speaking into your life, and since we become like the 5 people we spend the most time with, make those people and voices healthy. I hav one friend that only allows 100 people on her IG account, not a bad idea.
4. Basement -this is the one thing that is looming over me right now and I know I’ll feel way better one I tackle this.
5. Junk Drawer -we all have one. That drawer or cubby that is our “catch-all.” Gift, share, or donate half of the things that are in that space. Who really needs 5 nail clippers or a dozen used batteries anyway? 🙂
