Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
I’m typically a “glass-half-full” kind of personality and I try to blog encouraging things. But life has seasons, some sweet and rewarding; others hard and downright exhausting. Last week was one of those hard and draining weeks. A friend had a miscarriage, Daniel lost his grandmother, and a very dear friend called to say she has breast cancer. I put in long hours at work and one thing I found (for myself at least) is physical exhaustion can compound emotional exhaustion.
Today I had most of the day off so I decided to take a day to rejuvenate. I spent the morning in prayer and Bible reading then went for a swim. It’s one of the best ways I clear my mind. As I was walking to the car from the gym Daniel called to see if we could meet for lunch. After lunch I went home and took a nap. A nap in the middle of a Monday!! It felt wonderful! 🙂
I’m not sure what your day-or week-looks like but take some time to rest. I’m mostly talking to myself. I tend to work and keep going until I feel like I can’t give anymore. Find ways to refresh yourself mentally and physically. For a person who loves to give and walk alongside others, feeling burnt out felt scary.
Pause. Pray. Don’t neglect your soul, Friend.
Wishing you a week full of life and joy,
Jessica
