Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
The one thing that seems to sneak up on us (just like the holidays) are fall family photos. I thought I would give you a few tips to help your family photo session go smoothly this year.
Don’t wait. October and September are the best times to take your Christmas photos. The weather is just perfect, warm but not humid; and the trees are full of color. This also gives you plenty of time to print and address your cards; making it enjoyable, and not rushed to get them out on time.
Pace your day. Usually family photos happen in the evening when the whole family is home from school and off of work. Try not to plan a lot for that day. Forgo grocery shopping and choose laundry- something to do in your home. Then you ensure your toddlers and infants naps and stay on schedule. You can always ask to schedule your session early Saturday morning-a great option!
Choose your wardrobe. It really makes a difference when you put thought into your clothes. Stay away from too “matchy matchy” and try coordinating instead. Avoid small stripes in shirts. They can look funny in camera so a checkered or plaid is better options.
Trust. Choose a photographer you can trust. Do your research and make sure their work is consistent. Then during the photo session you feel even more confident knowing you are in good hands.
