Hi friend! My name is Jessica, I am a family and portrait photographer based in Washington Dc. I am a Christian, wife, and identical twin. I love lilacs, candles, rainy days and honesty. I love finding joy in simple things.
It’s no secret I love heirlooms. Things that have wear and tear from years of use and love. The most precious ones are the few irriplaceable things with memories tied to them. This is where my little red chair comes into the picture. (literally)
I spied it for the first time sitting in a corner at Danny’s Grandparent’s house. Handmade with scratches from many a child playing on it. When his Grandparents needed to downsize and the grandchildren were asked if they wanted anything, I told Danny of my secret wish. Now the thing is with treasures and heirlooms, you tend to sit them somewhere where they won’t be hurt or damaged. While I was tempted to do that, I was reminded of back when I was a little girl. One of my favorite things to do was to play dress up….with my Mother’s wedding dress. She could have told me and my sisters “No” and carefully folded it away somewhere. Instead she left us play till our hearts content! It now has many cookie (from past tea parties) and grass (from romping in the meadow) stains on it. But how we loved fluffing and dreaming in that dress! So I decided I would use this sweet old chair as many times that I can. I lug it along on many photo sessions…you will see it pop up here and there. Children love it! I think it makes them feel important to have a chair that’s their very size.
And now you know the story behind my little red chair.
