This Backyard Summer Family Session was so beautiful. The hydrangeas were in bloom and all of the yard was so lush and green. This family wanted to capture the bond between their two daughters and their beloved dog. I love in-home family sessions and backyard family sessions may just be my favorite. It’s comfortable being in your own home and choosing outside adds another layer of calm. The children could run and play when they got restless and there was space for the dog to move. We incorporated all the favorite things like the toddler’s stuffed bunny. This gives the family memories of this special phase in their toddlers life. Each child has favorite items as they grow up and I think it’s so important in family photography to add those when possible. It’s not all about the “pretty photos”, we as photographers are here to document the memories.

We finished their backyard summer family session on the front porch. They had just purchased this home and wanted to get the full house in a few photos. There is something so nostalgic about a front porch with rocking chairs and roses for me. I had them sit down and just let the photographs unfold organically. Their toddler ran around exploring while the parents cuddled the littlest on the stairs. This session warmed my heart all the way through and I can’t wait for more summer sessions this season.
